President Xi Jinpingsent a congratulatory letter to the World Young Scientist Summit

On the occasion of the opening of the 2019 World Young Scientist Summit, I would like to express my warm congratulations on the convening of the Summit.

A new round of scientific and technological revolution and industrial transformation has taken place, bringing about a profound impact on economic development, social progress and global governance. The future of science and technology lies in youth. It is the common aspiration of all countries to carry out scientific and cultural exchanges and promote youth innovation cooperation. The Summit is committed to building an open exchange platform, promoting young scientists, scientists and entrepreneurs from all over the world to work together for mutual benefit and win-win results, and pooling confidence, wisdom and strength to jointly meet global challenges.

It is hoped that the guests will exchange ideas, learn from each other, build the cornerstone of friendship and tighten the ties of cooperation around the theme of “converging the world's talents, creating a better future”, so that more young scientific and technological talents can display their ambitions and achieve their dreams, lead economic and social development with scientific and technological innovation, and create a better future for human development!

I wish the summit a complete success!

President Xi Jinping of the People's Republic of China

UN Secretary-GeneralA letter to all participants of the 2022 World Young Scientist Summit

The declaration adopted by the World Young Scientist Summit is an important expression of support for the role of science in advancing human well-being and overcoming the COVID-19 pandemic.

Like you, I believe that innovation, multilateralism and an entrepreneurial spirit will be crucial in addressing the global challenges of today and achieving the Sustainable Development Goals –from fighting extreme poverty to advancing climate action.

In today's knowledge-based economy, it is more crucial than ever to ensure that young people develop technological scientific skills and digital literacy. I am particularly concerned about gender gaps and regional disparities in these areas. I will count on you to address this challenge and advocate for gender equality and the empowerment of women and girls in all scientific fields.

As we strive to overcome the pandemic and recover better, we should also recognize it as a wake-up call regarding the profound disruptions caused by climate change. I am mobilizing a global coalition to achieve carbon neutrality in the middle of the century. Towards that end, I recently established a Youth Advisory Group on Climate Change to amplify the voices of young people. I will count on your active engagement and that of your peers.

Thank you again for your support of the United Nations and your contributions to building a more inclusive, equitable, sustainable and peaceful future.

Signed by António Guterres

Introduction

The World Young Scientist Summit is jointly organized by the China Association for Science and Technology and the People’s Government of Zhejiang Province. With the vision of promoting the building of a community with a shared future for mankind and focusing on the theme of “converging the world's talents, creating a better future”, it has been held three consecutive times. In 2019, Chinese President Xi Jinping sent a congratulatory letter to the first WYSS, pointing out that “the future of science and technology lies in youth”. In 2020, UN Secretary-General Guterres sent a letter to the representatives of young scientists attending the WYSS. In 2021, the President of the International Council for Science and the President of the International Union of Pure and Applied Physics attended the WYSS.

The three WYSSs have continuously strengthened ties with well-known international scientific and technological organizations, focused on the sustainable development plan of the United Nations, fully played the role of the scientific and technological community, actively built an open and innovative ecology, and promoted youth participation in global scientific and technological governance. WYSS has established exchanges and contacts with more than 100 countries, international scientific and technological organizations and over 100 foreign universities, and invited more than 30 world-class scientists such as Nobel Prize winners and Turing Prize winners, nearly 300 Chinese and foreign academicians and more than 2,600 young scientists to attend the summit.

The World Young Scientist Summit is committed to building an open communication platform, striving for more young scientists to exchange ideas, and learn from each other at the summit, so that more young scientists can display their ambitions and achieve their dreams at the summit venue. Through the successful holding of the three summits, Wenzhou, China, where the summit is held, has set up a World Young Scientist Entrepreneurship Fund with a total scale of RMB 10 billion, a 43,000-square-meter World Young Scientist Incubator and a 500-mu World Young Scientist Pioneer Park, and is building a World Young Scientist Industrial City and a World Young Scientist Academic Center. Through open exchanges and innovative cooperation, the Summit will promote the cooperation of young scientists, scientists and entrepreneurs from all over the world for mutual benefit and win-win results.

WYSS aims to promote the building of a community with a shared future for mankind, vigorously unite outstanding young scientists from all over the world, integrate young talents from industry, finance and art, stimulate scientific and technological innovation, multilateralism and entrepreneurship, promote dialogue, action and change, and pool confidence, wisdom and strength to jointly meet major global challenges and jointly create a better future for mankind.
